Last week, I had the great honor of photographing Captain Michael Smargiassi’s final flight in a C-130 aircraft, marking the end of his distinguished career and service as a Marine Corps pilot.
The significance of a military pilot’s last flight, known as the ‘Fini Flight,’ is unlike any other last day at a job. This isn’t a typical farewell; it’s an emotional event that honors years of dedication and service in the skies. Once the plane lands, it is acknowledged with a formal water salute, where two firetrucks shoot water over the plane creating an arch with plumes of water as it taxis in. Then, as is tradition, Captain Smargiassi was greeted with cheers, water dousing, and a bit of champagne spray for good measure!
Photographing events like this one always hits home for me. It’s a privilege to capture the pride, joy, and traditions that make these moments so special for our service members and their families!
As a photographer with a deep appreciation for military service, I am always honored to capture these remarkable moments for our service members and their families. I offer special rates for all active-duty military and veterans, ensuring that these cherished memories are preserved with the care and respect they deserve.
Thank you, Captain Smargiassi, for your service! Here’s to all the adventures ahead!
